Our Story

The Nagle family opened Independence Manor at Hunterdon in May of 2000 with a mission to create a vibrant, caring and supportive active senior living community. We wanted our residents to enjoy the activities and lifestyle they choose while receiving the necessary assistance to support their independence. Over two decades later, we are still family owned and operated and our mission has not changed. We continue to provide exceptional quality and personalized service to all of our residents who become part of our extended family. We provide a homelike environment that maximizes independence, promotes physical, social and emotional well-being and makes quality of life our top priority.

Our Personal Touch

We take great pride in being known for our “It’s in the way we care” approach. Offering kind, friendly service enhances our interactions and enriches the lives of our residents. Our professional staff is committed to forging deep connections that enable us to provide the individualized care and assistance that our residents are seeking. We take time getting to really know our residents. We know about their families, we ask about their interests and we care about their likes and dislikes. Going the extra mile to build relationships is why Independence Manor has such a strong sense of community.

Our Goal

Our goal is to give seniors and their family members an opportunity to live the healthiest and happiest lives possible.

It's in the Way we care

Independence Manor’s reputation has been built on providing exceptional care. That commitment was made by our founder and CEO, Gary Nagle but it is shared by all members of our leadership team as well as our professional staff. Our skilled executive and clinical teams are passionate about helping older adults thrive and it shows in their relationships with every one of our residents and their families. Getting to know every resident and their individual needs and preferences is what makes our team so special.

Our leadership team is easily accessible to residents on a daily basis and takes a hands-on approach to care. Mr. Nagle maintains an office in the building and spends several days each week on site to oversee operations. Our executive director, Roberta Sopronyi, RN, BSN, MA, CALA, is highly visible throughout the building. She can be seen making rounds with the nursing staff, visiting residents in the dining room during lunch and attending monthly Fireside Chats to hear residents’ thoughts and ideas. Our executive team encourages open communication, feedback and discussion about any matter of importance to you and your loved one, providing residents with a sense of family that is at the center of Independence Manor’s philosophy.

What makes the Independence Manor team different from many senior living communities is the longevity of our staff. Several members of our executive team have been part of the community for nearly 20 years. Many clinical staff members have been with us on average for 10-12 years. The commitment and dedication of our staff members to the community allows us to forge strong and meaningful connections with residents, in turn enhancing the care and service we can provide.

“I cannot recommend Independence Manor highly enough to anyone needing to transition a family member out of their family home. My parents spent the final seven years of their lives at Independence Manor and never once did I worry about their care or feel that I needed to "check up on them". Independence Manor is truly a community of friendly, supportive people serving elders at a special time of their lives.”

Our means of communication to all residents, families, and visitors, include but are not limited to group email notifications, signage, visual alerts, letters and phone calls if necessary.

To eliminate resident isolation during an outbreak, visitation will continue for all residents at all times with adherence to the Core Principles of COVID-19 Infection Prevention as directed by the NJDOH.
