We are proud to announce that we have earned New Jersey State’s “Advanced Standing” designation for quality for the years 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Advanced Standing is a voluntary program in which assisted living residences are recognized for meeting and exceeding quality benchmarks established by the state. The Department of Health, along with the Healthcare Association of New Jersey oversee the program to ensure that communities are providing the highest quality care and striving for excellence.
Each resident has an individualized care plan that describes their specific needs while promoting the highest level of independence possible. We treat every resident as an individual and recognize that everyone has unique physical, emotional and spiritual needs and preferences. Care plans are customized to ensure that residents receive the attention they require in a supportive environment. Our goal is to provide personalized service that allows each resident to achieve their full potential.
Our personalized care programs enable staff members to communicate with residents’ family members and physicians. Independence Manor’s care programs identify a resident’s needs, establish goals and together create a solution.
Recognizing that an individual’s needs are constantly changing, we regularly monitor and reassess care plans and make modifications as necessary. We take a proactive approach to ensuring that every resident feels supported at every stage of their journey.
Do you have a question? We’re here to help.
Both types of care providers cater to the needs of seniors, but they provide different levels of care and support.
Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF):
Assisted Living Community (AL):
Deciding when it's the right time to consider an assisted living facility for an aging parent involves careful observation of their physical health, mental well-being, and overall ability to manage daily activities. Here are five key things to look for:
Physical Health Decline:
Observe changes in physical health, such as difficulty with mobility, balance issues, or a decline in overall strength. If your parent is struggling with basic activities like dressing, bathing, or preparing meals, it may indicate a need for additional support that assisted living facilities can provide.
Cognitive Changes:
Pay attention to any signs of cognitive decline, memory loss, confusion, or behavioral changes. If your parent is having difficulty remembering important details, managing medications, or making sound decisions, it might be an indication that they need a more supportive environment with trained staff who can address cognitive challenges.
Social Isolation:
Note any signs of social withdrawal or isolation. If your parent is becoming increasingly lonely, lacks social interactions, or is unable to engage in activities they once enjoyed, an assisted living facility can offer a community setting with opportunities for socialization and companionship.
Safety Concerns:
Evaluate the home environment for safety hazards. If your parent is at an increased risk of falls, forgets to turn off appliances, or has difficulty navigating the home safely, an assisted living facility with a secure and monitored environment may be a safer option.
Inability to Manage Home Responsibilities:
Assess your parent's ability to handle household responsibilities. If they are struggling to maintain cleanliness, manage finances, or keep up with basic home maintenance, an assisted living facility can provide assistance with these tasks, allowing your parent to enjoy a more comfortable and stress-free living situation.
It's important to approach these observations with empathy and open communication. Discuss your concerns with your parent and involve them in the decision-making process. Additionally, consulting with healthcare professionals, such as their primary care physician can provide valuable insights into the appropriate level of care needed. The goal is to ensure that your parent's needs are met in a way that respects their dignity, independence, and overall well-being.
While in-home care has its merits, a memory care facility provides a comprehensive and specialized approach to dementia care, addressing the unique needs of individuals in a secure and supportive environment. The decision should be based on a thorough assessment of the individual's needs, with the understanding that the specialized care and resources offered by memory care communities can significantly enhance the quality of life for those with dementia.
Specialized Care and Expertise
Trained Staff: Memory care facilities employ staff specifically trained to handle the challenges associated with dementia. Their expertise ensures that residents receive specialized care tailored to their cognitive needs.
Secure Environment
Safety Measures: Memory care facilities are designed with rigorous safety protocols. Secure entrances and exits prevent wandering, offering a safer environment for individuals with dementia who may be prone to getting lost.
Structured Routine and Activities
Daily Programs: Memory care facilities provide structured routines and activities that cater to the cognitive abilities and interests of residents. This not only helps maintain a sense of routine but also fosters mental stimulation, promoting overall well-being.
Social Interaction
Community Setting: Living in a community of individuals facing similar challenges promotes social interaction and companionship, addressing the potential isolation that can occur in a home setting.
24/7 Supervision
Round-the-Clock Care: Memory care facilities offer continuous supervision, ensuring that individuals with dementia receive immediate assistance and support at any time, contributing to their safety and well-being.
Specialized Therapies
Therapeutic Services: Many memory care facilities offer specialized therapeutic services, including music and art therapy, designed to enhance the quality of life for residents and potentially slow the progression of dementia symptoms.
Family Assistance
Family Support: By choosing a memory care community, family members can experience relief from the demanding responsibilities of caregiving. This allows them to focus on maintaining a positive relationship with their loved one while professional caregivers handle the day-to-day challenges.
